Lady Bucks Pick Up Two Wins over Austin

bucks-basketballFARWELL – The Lady Bucks began their season this past week on a good note as they posted a 2-1 record going into Muncy on Thursday night. Last Friday, the Lady Bucks opened up with Galeton at the Williamson Tip-off Tournament as Galeton won over the Lady Bucks 53-21. The Lady Bucks defense could not stop M. Shadle and C. Parsell of the Lady Tigers as they scored 22 and 19 points respectively for Galeton.

Bucktail had balance scoring among themselves as Sophomore Maria D’Onofrio led the way with 7 points. Our percentage of shots was high because we did not shoot often. But the biggest thing was giving Galeton second and third shots at the basket. Coach Gentzyel mentions also that we have to take care of the ball. Lady Bucks had 36 turnovers and that will surely not win basketball games against anybody.

On Saturday, the Lady Bucks face Austin as they are playing with nine players all together for both JV and Varsity. The Lady Bucks had balance scoring again as Freshman Hunter Stidfole was the game high scorer with 15 points. Then D’Onofrio and Junior Emalea Mills had 14 and 12 points respectively. Mills and Stidfole recorded a double-double on the night as Mills had 11 rebounds and Stidfole recorded 13 rebounds. The Lady Bucks also gathered up 19 steals during the game as Senior Paige Sockman led with 5 steals. Lady Bucks winning 57-18.

This past Monday night, the Lady Bucks face the same Austin team in just three days as they won again 36-16. Bucktail jumped out to a 17-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. Austin would play the Lady Bucks tough during the next three quarters as the Lady Bucks only out scored Austin 19-15. This time its not like the lady Bucks were not shooting the ball as they had all kind of looks at the basket. Bucktail just could not find the bottom of the net.

Again, Bucktail had balance scoring as Senior Bridget Gardner led with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Stidfole and D’Onofrio each had 8 points as Stidfole also had 9 rebounds to help Gardner out underneath.

In the three JV games, the Lady Bucks also started with a 2-1 record. Losing to Galeton 20-11. High scorer for the Lady Bucks Ebonee Spriggs 7 points. Winning over Austin 19-17. Spriggs again as the high scorer. On Monday, they won over Austin again 23-12 as Amanda Tyrrell and Taylor Werts lead the team with 6 points each.

Next up for the Lady Bucks is a trip to Muncy on Thursday evening starting at 6:30 PM. Then on Saturday the lady Bucks will host its first home game against Northern Potter starting at 2:00 PM. Next Tuesday the Lady Bucks will travel to Bloomsburg for a 6:00 PM tip-off.
