bucks-footballFARWELL – A Halloween treat came one day early for all the trick or treats being given out as Bucktail spooked visiting Nativity 16-13 for the win. It was Homecoming night also as the Bucks moved to 3-5 with Carson Long coming to Dwyer Memorial Field next Friday night.

The Bucks’ Josh Marr ran the opening kick-off some 80 yards for the touchdown to start the night’s celebrations. Bucktail missed the extra point. But the Green Wave had some tricks of its own as they took the kick-off some 70 plus yards up the sideline for their touchdown. Nativity missed the extra point as the score was 6-6 at the 11:34 mark of the first quarter.

In the second quarter Bucktail had a fourth and four on Nativity ten yard line as Coach Bruce Ransom caledl timeout to talk about it. Bucktail’s Brice Cannon came out and lined up for a 28 yard field goal attempt. The kick was good with 3:38 left before the half as Bucktail went into the locker room up 9-6.

In the third quarter it was a battle to see who could run the ball on each other, both defenses holding their own during the third quarter, each team putting all eleven men in the box, just asking each other to pass the ball. The fourth quarter was about to see the action pick up on both sides of the ball for both teams as the tension was growing. At the 10:43 mark Bucktail had a third and 12 on Nativity’s 44 yard line. The Bucks, coming out of a timeout, called the quarterback keeper right up the middle and Mike Casper had a clear field all the way to the end zone as soon as he broke the line of scrimmage. Extra point by Brice Cannon was good and Bucktail was up 16-6.

Nativity did not give up as they took a 65 yard drive right down the field to score 16-13 with 3:43 left in the game. Nativity defense knocked the Bucks backwards as they gave the ball to Nativity on the Bucks 44 yard line with over two minutes left. The Bucktail defense stepped up big after a big penalty was tacked onto a 8-yard sack on first down. Then on the very next play Marr playing defensive end had a clear lane to sack the quarterback for another ten yard loss. Third and 33 and Nativity could not complete a pass down field.  Bucktail Casper then took the knee to end the game.
