R.O.C.C. to be Held September 19

RENOVO – A new youth group (7th-12th graders) is being launched – R.O.C.C.-Renovo (Reaching Our Community for Christ). The first event will take place on Saturday, September 19 from 4-7 p.m. at Bucktail High School with a $5.00 registration fee at the door (doors open at 3:45PM) – and hopefully the first of many such events.
As we all know, self-esteem is vital throughout one’s life and is usually rocked during the teen years. Our youth are our future community leaders, workers, fathers and mothers. Many of them struggle with low self-esteem, peer pressure, broken families, absentee parenting and many temptations that can negatively impact their lives and their futures.

No single church or organization can adequately address these challenges during the most crucial time in their lives … and without the spiritual moorings that Jesus Christ provides, they may make unwise decisions during these tumultuous teen years that affect their future negatively. Other communities have the same dilemma – how to reach their youth in a positive and uplifting way so that they make wise decisions regarding their future – one filled with purpose, passion and a life-long mission.

Eight years ago, in Bradford County (an area with similar challenges), Paul Rishel (a former area resident), along with several others, and with the support of area churches, established a R.O.C.C. group. They have been meeting with excited and committed folks from our community for several years. Twenty-five of them will be coming to launch R.O.C.C.-Renovo on September 19.

They have also seeded into this event extensively not only traveling three hours one-way each time for meetings but also through a substantial financial gift to purchase various publicity and other resources. Their R.O.C.C. group now includes over 100 young people who meet regularly for fun-filled events at their school, with a strong spiritual emphasis and undergirding. Several young people shared, in a recent meeting that their lives have changed dramatically. In fact one of them saw hope for the first time and therefore chose life rather than a planned suicide.

Many volunteers are needed to assure that R.O.C.C.-Renovo continues – growing to include many such events and overseen by a strong board and committed folks of all ages and backgrounds. We hope that you will consider getting involved to make a difference in the lives of our area youth – encouraging and guiding them to fulfill their vocation and become all that the Lord has created them to be. Let’s rally to energize and support them through this powerful R.O.C.C.-Renovo venue – a venue that will help our area youth to make a huge difference in this world, beginning right here in Western Clinton County! Clear your schedule now to join us on September 19 from 4-7 p.m..
