Ott No-Hits Keystone

key-base-logoBEECH CREEK – Everyone knew going into the District 12 Major Little League playoffs that Montoursville had a major force in returning pitcher Logan Ott.

Ott more than lived up to his billing, putting on a dominant pitching performance in leading Montour to a 6-0 win over the Keystone Little League at Blaine Kunes Memorial Park Tuesday evening.

How good was Ott? He had a perfect game into the fourth inning and ended with a no-hitter, allowing just two runners on a walk in the fourth inning and an infield error in the fifth. He struck out 13, including the side in Keystone’s last at bat in the bottom of the sixth.

The lefty helped his own cause with a mammoth homerun and a two RBI single. He was also helped by great defensive play from his shortstop Ryan Kennell who robbed Aidan Major of a hit on a hard hit ball into the hole in the fifth inning, making the play across the infield to first base.

Keystone meanwhile made a couple mistakes that proved costly. Four of the six Montour runs were unearned, based on a passed ball and a couple Keystone errors.

The visitors struck first when Kennell led off the top of the second with a double, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a passed ball. They added two more in the fourth, Peyton Mussina and Ott leading off the inning and hitting the first pitch they saw for homeruns. Three more unearned runs came across in the fifth, fueled by two Keystone errors and two walks.

Riley Houser pitched the first four innings for Keystone and took the loss, giving up three runs, two of them earned. Rocco Stark and Major finished up.

For Keystone it makes their District 12 hopes difficult, needing to win six games in a row to secure the title. Next opportunity comes Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Montoursville field, a loser’s bracket game against the loser of tonight’s game between Jersey Shore/GSV and Muncy.
