BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – If it’s any consolation to the 0-2 Central Mountain boys basketball team, last year’s edition of the Wildcats started out 0-4 but finished with a rush to finish at 16-7, one of the best records in school history.

This year coach Scott Baker has counseled patience, noting “there’s a lot of teaching to be done.”

Two games in, it would appear the Wildcats are making some progress.

Their first two games were losses, but both respectable to respectable programs: 76-50 at Mifflin County (1-0) last Saturday and 68-55 at home to Loyalsock (2-0) on Tuesday.

A slow start doomed the Wildcats in their home opener; down 21-8 after one quarter, Central Mountain played the visiting Lancers even the rest of the way.

With a stepped up defense and two 3s from Wes Jolly and one from Travis Turchetta, Central Mountain pulled to within 62-53 with under two minutes remaining, but could get no closer as ‘Sock made most of its foul shots down the stretch.

Tyler Everhart led the Wildcats with 14 points, Turchetta had 13, Jolly 7 and sophomore Alex Garbrick had 7.

Central Mountain hung early at Mifflin County, trailing 21-15 when the host Huskies went on a 17-4 tear to break things open on the way to the 76-50 win.

The Wildcats travel to Selinsgrove Friday and return home next Monday to take on 1-1 Hollidaysburg.
