cm-baseballMILL HALL — It wasn’t the kind of regular season ending Central Mountain baseball fans were hoping for.

The Wildcats saw their undefeated 8-0 mark at Mill Hall Community Park come to a resounding end on Thursday, when visiting Mifflin County putting up seven runs in the sixth inning to break open a tight game and go on to an 11-2 victory.

It was the final regular season game for both, the Wildcats finishing at 13-6, Mifflin County at 12-8. Both will have District 6 AAAA semifinal games next Wednesday; number four seed Mifflin County travels to number one Altoona while the three seed Wildcats visit number two seed State College.

For the second game in a row Central Mountain got off to a slow start against the visiting team, Mifflin County touching up starter Toner Corl for three runs in the top of the first. Central Mountain would get one back on a booming RBI double to centerfield from catcher Isaac Porter in the bottom of the inning.

Mifflin County plated a run in the top of the third and the Wildcats answered with three straight singles from Zach Skrtich, Porter and Talon Falls whose RBI made it a 4-2 game. It stayed that way until the sixth inning when Mifflin County took advantage of three CM infield errors to plate seven runs. The contest did see the varsity debut of Central Mountain pitcher Ethan Watkins, up from the jayvee squad. Corl took the loss.

Central Mountain had two hits from Porter and two from Kenny Heverly, his hits including a double. Bryce Hanley also contributed a single as Mifflin County starter Ross Torquato spread out seven hits and struck out seven.

The ‘Cats will board the bus for State College on Thursday, May 21, 2015 for a 4 p.m. semi-final contest with the Little Lions in the District 6 playoffs.
