You Rock – Elks Lodge 334 …

Rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, but the buzz is that the Renovo Elk’s Lodge and Sons of Italy Lodge may be in a competition to see which organization can spread the most good will and helpful dollars to Renovo area non-profit organizations. The Elks Lodge 334 gave nearly $6,000 away this past week, spreading the money among 18 non-profit groups. The Elks presented some of it Sunday and the rest is being mailed. What I heard was that Elks have been giving money to various groups for years without much fanfare, but this time decided to publicize their good deeds.

On Sunday the Elks also held a memorial service for their deceased members. The Elks by tradition, during evening functions, toast deceased members at the 11 p.m.

Who chopped down the tree? …

Rumor has it that some nasty someone cut down a tree from the front yard of an elderly Huron Avenue person who resides near the traffic light. I’m told the tree owner was really saddened that someone took down her tree. I’ve also been told that the tree was planted by Bucktail school students a few years ago as part of a project to beautify the borough. I’m one of those people who believe a street lined by trees is one of the friendliest welcomes a town can present.

A good thing to know …

Although we’ve had a few days reprieve from the frigid mornings, our frost covered windshields are bound to return. A friend gave a list of good things to know and I’m sharing this one with you. To ice-proof you car windows, fill a spray bottle with of solution of three parts vinegar to one part water and spray on the windows at night. They should be clear of ice in the morning.

A very special concert treat …

Don’t forget this coming the annual Christmas Concert at St. Joseph’s Church will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. People who attend this concert are in for a delightful concert and a very special treat, the singing duo of Bucktail Area High School students Aaron Kelley and Patrick Intallura. I was one of the lucky ones who heard them practice Monday night and I’m telling you these two are good with a capital G.

Christmas ritual …

Marlene Ruhl mentioned at the Renovo Area Women’s Club meeting Tuesday evening that the annual Christmas concert at St. Joe’s is part of her family’s holiday tradition. She said the concert is just the right way to start the season and that the choir is much more appreciated that it realizes.

A Christmas feeling …

The Renovo area is looking so good in its Christmas finery that one really has be feeling grinchy not to feel good especially on 14th Street where it appears everyone coordinated their outside lights, and when you look over to East Renovo from the Sportsman’s parking lot. The Flaming Foliage property looks inviting as usual with some new lights added this year. I’m told that Erie Avenue is beautiful at night.

Rumor has it …

Rumor has it, not a clue it it’s true, but I’ve heard some talk that people who have driven through the borough to check out the holiday scene said they would prefer steady lights rather than blinking lights. It’s easier on their eyes if the lights don’t blink, they say.

Thank You Parade & Christmas Committee …

A big thank you goes out to Pattie Rauch, Bucktail High School senior Aaron Kelley, the Renovo Fire Department and everyone who had a hand in making this year’s parade one of the best in years and bringing out the best in Renovo’s “old fashioned Christmas spirit.” Young Aaron Kelley did much to spearhead the effort beginning with a published essay he wrote. Area residents picked up on Aaron’s idea and there are good vibes all through town. The holiday spirit effort comes on the heels of the October cleanup by local residents and people are saying it’s just a good, good feeling among residents right now that they are determined to make Renovo shine.
