Special KCSB Meeting Set on SV Charter School

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP — The Keystone Central School Board has scheduled a special meeting, to (as per the school district website) “consider whether to renew or not to renew the charter of the Sugar Valley Rural Charter School.”

The meeting will be held Thursday night at 6 p.m. at the Central Mountain Middle School library to discuss the future of the Loganton-based charter school seeking a third 5-year charter from the district. The Keystone Central school board twice in the past turned down the charter school request but charter school supporters twice were successful in obtaining approval from a state appeals board.

It is understood the board may opt to vote on the school’s future at the Thursday meeting or postpone a decision until the district’s regular meeting set for Thursday, Feb. 5.

The district notice said this Thursday’s meeting is “for the purpose of considering relevant information relating to the renewal request from the Sugar Valley Rural Charter School to extend the term of its Charter for an additional five years, including receiving information and reports from the independent consultants, and for general purposes, and/or for taking official action on any or all matters that may come before the board.”

The district had hired two outside consultants to study the issue; their findings are expected to be part of the Thursday meeting.
