BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – Terming the recognition “a pretty nice accomplishment,” Keystone Central School District superintendent Kelly Hastings has lauded the Renovo Elementary School for its recognition as a “Rewards School.”

Hastings announced at last week’s school board meeting that the district recently received notification of the state designation, “an honor that only 88 schools in the state have received.”

To get the recognition and an opportunity for two $50,000 grants, Hastings said, a series of goals had to be met: closing the achievement gap for historically underperforming students, closing the achievement gap for all students, an 85 percent graduate rate (for secondary schools) and a 95 percent participation rate in mandated testing.

Hastings congratulated the Renovo school, stating “The hard work of our students, teachers, parents and staff made this happen.”

The school is now eligible for the two grants, one to fund continued implementation of the practices that helped the school achieve the honor, the other to work with a low-achieving school elsewhere (there are none in Keystone Central) to help them achieve “reward” status.
