LHU 1-3 on Michigan Trip

lhu-matsYPSILANTI, Mich. – The Lock Haven University wrestling team went 1-3 at the Eastern Michigan University Duals/Open on Saturday. The showing left the Bald Eagles at 1-4 in dual action, returning to Thomas Field House this Friday with a home opener with Shippensburg.

Lock Haven opened the day with a 28-12 loss to No. 21 Ohio, but bounced back for the Bald Eagles’ first dual win of the 2014-15 season, downing Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, 24-12.

LHU closed the day with losses to No. 23 Kent State, 22-18 and host-Eastern Michgian, 25-13.

Leading the way was Fred Garcia (Donara, Pa./Rinngold), who was 3-1. He’s now 8-1 on the season.

One sidebar on the Kent State match saw the Bald Eagles’ Aaron McKinney edge KSU’s Tyler Buckwalter by a 4-3 score at 167 pounds. Buckwalter is in his third year at Kent State and is the son of Central Mountain High School coach Doug Buckwalter.

The Bald Eagles will wrestle in front of the home fans for the first time this season Friday, a 7 p.m. start against Shippensburg.

Friday is Youth Wrestling Night. As part of Youth Wrestling Night, all youth wrestlers 12 years of age and younger will be admitted free of charge. There will also be a free youth clinic at 6 p.m. in Thomas Field House.
