LOCK HAVEN – Clinton County is in the market for a new Chief Clerk.

Amy Dicello, chief clerk for the past five years, notified the county commissioners of her planned departure at the end of the day last Friday and the commissioners made public announcement of the matter at their Monday work session.

Dicello’s last day with the county is Nov. 7. On Monday, Nov. 10 she will begin as budget director at Lock Haven University.

The chief clerk said she “very much enjoyed” her time with the county and said, “What I have learned in my experience with the county will enable me to be successful at the university.”

County commissioner Jeff Snyder, even as he wished Dicello well, said Monday he and his fellow commissioners were “shocked” by the departure, one he said they “did not see coming.”

He said the commissioners are “outlining a roadmap” as to the replacement process and indicated the county board would not rush to name a successor, noting the previous board of commissioners had taken some four months in the hiring process after previous chief clerk Kathy Conrad had departed county employment. Snyder said the current board would not take that length of time.

He said he could not immediately answer who will temporarily assume the Dicello duties upon her vacating the office. Snyder also indicated her departure should have no great impact on the county’s ongoing budget process. He said a series of budget meetings with county staff ended last week and pointed out Dicello will be with the county over the next three work weeks before leaving.

Snyder said the commissioners were happy for Dicello and her opportunity to further her career. He said the university “will get a real asset.”
