FARWELL – Bucktail student Natasha Peck is in the midst of her Senior Project, and has been since the beginning of last year’s varsity softball season, when she was sidelined due to a serious knee injury she suffered playing basketball.

Her goal is to replace the temporary orange fencing around the Bucktail softball field with a permanent chain link fence and bring the field up to comparable standards with other high school fields in the vicinity. The orange fence, typically used on construction sites, has been used for the past several years and has been put in place at the onset of the season by the students in the Construction Trades class.

Peck is determined to get the fence installed before the start of the spring varsity season. The original plan included the cost of installation, but Natasha has since decided to rally the troops and install the fence on her own with the help of local family, friends, and volunteers. She expects the entire project to cost between five and six thousand dollars.

Over the past several months Natasha has been in contact with local businesses to raise funds for the project. In addition, she has hosted several ham potpie dinners, bake sales, and most recently sold ham and pork BBQ dinners at the Bucktail Football home opener.

It is not uncommon for Bucktail’s seniors to take on such large projects. Projects in just the past few years have brought about several upgrades for the softball program, including the construction of dug-outs and a scoreboard. Senior projects also lent to the scoreboard for the baseball field, as well as the rock sign welcoming all those who enter the school property via Bucktail Avenue.

If you would like to donate funds to help with the completion of the project please send checks, payable to Natasha Peck or Bucktail Area High School c/o Natasha Peck’s Senior Project, to 1300 Bucktail Ave, Renovo, PA 17764.
