CLEARFIELD – The state department of transportation has announced a September 11 bid opening for phase two of Lamar Township’s Route 220-Auction Road project.

The work carries an estimated $10 million to $12.5 million price tag. When completed sometime next year, the improvement will see a three span bridge to carry Route 220 over the Auction Road/Fairgrounds Road. The present configuration, minus any bridge or traffic signal lights, has been the site of a number of serious accidents over the years.

Marlaine Fannin, Community Relations Coordinator from PennDOT’s Clearfield office, said a notice to proceed to the successful bidder will likely be given four weeks after the bid date. She said some preliminary work could begin this year, allowing for potential earthwork during the winter months.

Fannin said “full-on” construction activity is expected throughout the 2015 construction season.
She said the construction will include a “partial diamond configuration interchange and a three-span bridge for SR 220 above SR 2008,” a length of 149 feet.

Funding for the improvement is 90 percent federal and 10 percent state, Fannin said.

Local officials have long sought the bridge improvement because of safety reasons. Phase one of the project was completed earlier this year.
