leg-ba-logo2SCRANTON – The South Scranton Regional Junior Legion Baseball Tournament began with eight teams and after Monday, it is down to four. The final four include Beech Creek, Conestoga, Northampton, and Plains.

Beech Creek remained alive with a 4-1 win over the Roxborough Bandits in loser bracket action; the Junior Crickets are now 2-1 in the tournament.

For the second consecutive day the little Crickets jumped out to an early lead against their opponent. This time the Beech Creek team went up 4-0 after three innings and held off a last inning rally by the Bandits. Brandon Miller started the Crickets’ offense with a lead-off triple in the top of the first inning. Alex Garbrick drove Miller in with a single to center field. In the second inning Beech Creek added another run with a double by Ethan Watkins and singles by Mitch Smith and Miller. The Crickets plated two more runs in the third inning with a double by Talon Falls, singles from Wyatt Koch and Watkins, and a sacrifice fly from Cole Reeder.

Reeder started on the mound for Beech Creek and pitched a two hitter. Reeder held Roxborough scoreless for the first six innings, but gave up a run in the seventh with 2 walks, a single, and a throwing error on his defense. He then got two strike outs to end the inning with the Bandits leaving runners on first and third. Reeder ended the game with 14 strike outs and three walks.

With their second win of the tournament, Beech Creek (2-1) moves on to Tuesday action. They will play the winner of Monday’s late game, Conestoga versus Northampton, both of those teams 2-0 in the tournament.

The regional tournament wraps up on Wednesday with the winner moving on to the state tournament.
