clinton-sb-logoSOUTH WILLIAMSPORT ā€“ For the Clinton 10-11 All-Star softball team, it was one of “those” nights at the District 12 Championship as they ended up on the short end of a 9-2 loss to East Lycoming. It was the type of situations your mother cautiously warned you about. When you least expect it, your good fortune is absent and you try to persevere to reach your goal. Though, nothing seems to fall into place for your efforts.

Early in the contest, East Lycoming set the tone. Once they had a base runner, their coaching staff was going to push the team to advance around the bases at all costs. They took many astonishing risks that normally would be quite perilous, yet prevailed. The gamble paid off for most of the evening. Proving the point, EL scored 9 runs on the night with only 2 hits.

At every opportunity base runners in the green and white jerseys were attacking the diamond to reach home. Often catching the Clinton defense by surprise. More often East Lycoming was winning the odds race in successfully taking advantage of uncharacteristic throwing miscues and late tags by Clinton.

For Clinton, they just never seemed to get on track. Their once stingy defense seemed to have a few cracks that offered opportunities and on offense their usually strong bats seemed to fall silent.

It was not all gloom and doom for Clinton as there were several bright spots on the night and the experience will surely offer a lesson learned and yield the inspiration to prepare more soundly for the future.

The Clinton 9-10 All-Stars were a class act throughout the tournament and handled adversity extremely well. The won with class and lost with dignity. Just like your mother always said you should.
