Gov. Wolf Orders State Flag to Half-staff over Death of Clinton County Deputy Sheriff

HARRISBURG – Governor Tom Wolf Tuesday ordered all Commonwealth Flags on the Capitol Complex in Harrisburg and at Commonwealth facilities and public buildings and grounds throughout Clinton County to be lowered to half-staff in honor of Clinton County Deputy Sheriff Stephen Herrold who passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 20.

Per the directive, Commonwealth Flags shall remain lowered at half-staff until sunset on Friday, July 28. The state release said all Pennsylvanians are invited to participate in this tribute.

Herrold, 30, a Lock Haven resident, had previously been a correctional officer at the Clinton County Correctional Facility. Survivors include his wife, the former Kelly Flynn and their new-born son Brock, born on July 10. His unexpected passing caused immense sorrow among the local law enforcement community and those who knew him.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the auditorium at Central Mountain High School. Burial will follow at Schencks Cemetery in Howard Township, Centre County. A considerable turnout of law enforcement personnel is expected at the funeral. Visitation will be held Tuesday at the high school from 4 to 8 p.m.
