Bucktail Junior High Track and Field

by Aaron Kelley

FARWELL – This spring, something new is happening in Bucktail sports. Robert Varholak, this year’s new business teacher, is taking the steps necessary to put together an experimental junior high track-and-field team consisting of a number of athletic 7th through 9th grade students. These athletes will practice daily after school for the remainder of the school year, learning the skills needed to successfully participate and win in many common events hosted at high-school track-and-field competitions. At the end of the season, Varholak’s team is scheduled to participate in an exhibition meet alongside Central Mountain in a culmination of all of the athletes’ efforts. When asked about the future of the program, the new coach said that if enough interest is shown throughout the rest of the season, the program will most likely become a full-fledged junior high sport in the spring of next year. If numbers stay up, Varholak said, then the program may expand to become an entirely new varsity sport, as well.
