Beech Creek Sr. Legion CPL Champs with 11-4 Win over Mifflin County

BEECH CREEK – The Crickets kept up their workman like ways eventually wearing down Mifflin County for a 11-4 win and the Central Pennsylvania League title. With the win, Beech Creek stands at 15-2 for 2017 and will advance to regional play this Saturday in Clearfield.

Beech Creek held Mifflin County scoreless in the first inning but put up a sing run in the bottom half of the inning. With one out on the board, Toner Corl worked a walk, then with 2 outs, younger brother, Asher Corl pounded out a sharply hit single to center field. On the hit, Toner Corl advanced to third base. On the next pitch, Asher Corl got the signal to steal second base and while Mifflin County attempted to defend that play, Toner Corl scampered home for the Crickets first score of the game.

In the top of the second inning, Mifflin County used a walk, a sac fly along with a double and a single to plate two runs and hold a 2-1 advantage heading into the third inning.

The scoreboard held steady until the bottom of the fifth inning when Mifflin County stretched this lead to 3-1 on a solo home run.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Crickets found their bats in a big way by scoring 5 runs take back the lead at 6-3.

The scoring in the fourth inning for Beech Creek began with a base hit from Talon Falls, a 2 RBI double from Wyatt Koch, then another double from Austyn Carson and a RBI single from Trevor Hanna. Mitch Smith followed that effort with 2 RBI triple, then Evan Prough scored Smith on a fielder’s choice RBI.

Mifflin County would tack on their last run in the top of the fifth inning to narrow the game to 6-4.

Once again the Crickets would unleash the offense in the sixth inning for 5 more runs.

This time around, Hanna, Smith and Prough would work back-to-back-toback walks to load the bases. Then Brandon Miller blasted a 2 RBI double to right field followed by a 2 RBI triple from Toner Corl. Then Talon falls pounded out a double to plate Corl and give Beech Creek their 11-4 advantage.

On the mound, AJ Smith drew the start and pitched the first five innings striking out two allowing 7 hits and walking one batter. Ethan Watkins came in to close out the last two innings taking Mifflin County in order for both innings, striking out 2 batters in the process.
