Toner Corl Leads Crickets to 6-2 Win over Mifflin County

BEECH CREEK – The Beech Creek Crickets put on a solid performance to build an early lead to hand a 6-2 loss to Mifflin County in their first round playoff game.

Toner Corl set the pace for the Crickets by going the distance on the mound striking out 7 batters, walking 2 and giving up only 4 hits. Corl helped his own cause by leading the offensive effort as well with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate for 3 singles and 2 RBI on the day.

Beech Creek scored two runs in each of the first three inning to set the tone for the game with solid hitting all around. Base hits from Brandon Miller and Talon Falls with asher Corl reaching base on a Mifflin County error and Austin Carson working a walk to plate the first two runs.

In the second inning, Trevor Hannah pounded out a double followed by a walk for Evan Prough set the table. Then came Toner Corl’s first base hit to score Hanna, then Falls scored Prough on a sacrifice fly to center field.

Austin Carson opened the third inning with a base hit and a stolen base. Later, with one out on the board, Hanna duplicated Carson’s contribution with a single and a stolen base. Then Brandon Miller drove in the final run with a sac fly to deep right field.

Mifflin County mounted a comeback effort in the fifth inning but the Cricket defense would only allow two runs to score.

Mifflin County will next play State College on Monday, July 10, with the winner returning to face the Crickets once more on Tuesday, July 11.
