Clinton Majors Comeback Run Continues

LOYALSOCK TOWNSHIP — The Clinton Major softball team is on a roll, winning its third loser-bracket game in a row on Tuesday by an 8-5 score over Newberry. The victory put Clinton into the championship game scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. at Little League’s Volunteer Stadium in South Williamsport, the opponent Loyalsock.

For Clinton to win the district crown it would have to defeat ‘Sock twice as the down river team owns a tourney opening 10-1 win over Clinton on June 20. Since that loss Clinton has bounced back, first a 12-7 win over Jersey Shore followed by a 4-2 win over Muncy and Tuesday’s victory over Newberry in the loser bracket final.

The Clinton team did what it had to do Tuesday, riding the right arm of pitcher Allison Lininger. She hurled a complete game 6-hitter, striking out 11, including the side in the fourth. Her defense was solid throughout, committing just one error.

Meanwhile Clinton picked up 10 hits, led by number three hitter Caitlyn Watson who finished 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Leadoff hitter Madison Toner had two singles and scored three runs; number two batter Aubrielle Pinero had two singles, scored two runs, drove in one and had a stolen base. Emma Poorman contributed a hit and two RBIs and Gianna Dressler had a single..
