Keystone Dominates South Side, 11-0

BEECH CREEK — Through their first two District 12 playoff games the Keystone Major League team has played about as well as it can, piling up an 11-0 four-inning win over South Williamsport Tuesday evening, following a 39-0 takedown of Newberry on Monday.

The Tuesday win over South at Blaine Kunes Memorial Park in Beech Creek put coach Daren Stover’s team into a winners’ bracket semifinal Friday evening; that game will be played in Beech Creek against the winner of a Tuesday game between Loyalsock and Jersey Shore/GSV.

Keystone’s Tuesday win was again a team effort. Keystone played errorless ball behind starter Cru Stover and reliever Levi Schlesinger. Stover went the first three and two-thirds innings, giving up two singles, striking out seven while working two. Schlesinger came in and struck out the only batter he faced.

Meanwhile the top of the Keystone offense piled up all nine team hits as the home team scored in every inning, putting the game away with seven runs in the top of the fourth and final inning. Matt Conklin led the way with a 3-for-3 game featuring a double and two singles. Stover, batting third, singled in the game’s first run but was walked in his next two plate appearances; Conklin, batting fourth, made South pay with follow-up singles each time.

Leadoff hitter Luke Simcox went 2-for-3 with a walk, double and a line-drive homerun to start the fourth inning. Ashton Probst added two singles and Chase Brush one single.

Friday’s winner is scheduled to play in the winners’ bracket final scheduled for the Woolrich field Sunday at 2 p.m.
