Process Begins for New Bald Eagle Township Supervisors

LOCK HAVEN — Bald Eagle Township is in the market for two new supervisors and the process to find them has begun.

Clinton County President Judge Craig P. Miller this week issued an order asking that those with an interest in serving as a supervisor submit a letter to that effect by June 30. The court became involved after a petition from township residents, this after supervisors Jim Bechdel and Jack Bechdel resigned last month. Their departure came after Jim Bechdel was ordered by the Pennsylvania Ethics Commission to pay more than $100,000 in penalties for violations of state ethics law. The state agency charged him with using the authority of his office to make purchases from the Federal Surplus Supply Property Program and “subsequently converted those items to his personal use and/or conveyed them to a member of his immediate family.” Bechdel and his brother/fellow supervisor Jack Bechdel were both implicated in the ethics report and subsequently resigned, leaving the township with one supervisor in Ken McGhee.

The formal notice from Clinton County Court:

“A Petition of Citizens and Electors has been filed with the Clinton County Court of Common Pleas by residents of Bald Eagle Township requesting the appointment of two new Supervisors. This filing is the result of the recent resignations of Supervisors James Bechdel, Sr. and Jack Bechdel.
