‘Cats Pick Up 9-5 Win at Shamokin

cm-baseballCOAL TOWNSHIP – Central Mountain picked up another decisive win on the road outscoring Shamokin 9-5 in Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference action.

The Wildcats (3-3, 3-1) opened up their scoring in the first inning when Brandon Miller pounded out a double to to right field followed by a walk from Austyn Carson then Miller advancing to third on a wild pitch. Miller scored on a sac fly from Asher Corl.

In the top of the second inning, the ‘Cats went back to work scoring four more runs on a walk from Trevor Hanna, single from Evan Prough then a walk from Zach Eck followed by a Shamokin error, a sac fly from Carson and a single from Corl to go up 5-0.

Shamokin battled back in the bottom of the third inning scoring 3 runs to keep the game interesting at 5-3 Central Mountain.

Both teams held each other scoreless in the fourth inning, then the Shamokin pitching encountered some issues in the fifth inning.

Troy Gardner opened up with a base hit for the Wildcats in the top of the fifth. Mahlik Houtz popped out to right field. Hanna followed with a double then Ethan Watkins earned a walk to load the bases with one out. That’s when Shamokin starting pitcher, Quinn Rollman had some tough going giving up consecutive walks to Prough and Eck to extend the CM lead to 7-4.

The Indians answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning to tighten the score to 7-5 with the Wildcats still leading.

Central Mountain tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh inning as a result of a walk for Hanna, a base hit for Tanner Spangler and double from Eck and a base hit from Carson.

Trevor Hanna earned the win on the mound for Central Mountain pitching four innings, allowing five runs, four hits, and striking out four. Tanner Spangler recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for the Wildcats. Rollman took the loss for Shamokin Area. He went four and a third innings, allowing seven runs, and eight hits.

Central Mountain will next see action on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Bellefonte.
