Words of Grace – Feb. 16, 2017

WordsOfGraceA man once wrote about what he had experienced years ago that taught him a great lesson.  He was a big man who lived in a town where he could never find any clothes to fit him.

There was a clothing company that specialized in large and extra large sizes, and he would occasionally send away orders for what he needed.  At the bottom of the order forms was printed the following words:

“If we do not have the article you order in stock, may we substitute?”

Once, on one of his orders, he wrote “yes” in answer to the question, and the company wrote to tell him that they did not have the article in stock.  But, they said, we are sending a substitute, and they sent him something that was worth double the price he had paid.

Because the company had made it a rule that if they could not supply the article ordered, they would then substitute with one of a much better quality, the customer benefitted.  After that, he printed out boldly so they would understand it:  “YES.”

Someone has commented that, when we pray to God, we had better put on the order form that we are quite willing to let the Lord substitute, for we will receive something far better.  He “is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20).
