Central Mountain’s Turner Suffers Loss at States

Caleb 1st loss

HERSHEY — Central Mountain’s Caleb Turner ran into a buzz-saw in the first round of the PIAA championships at the Giant Center Thursday night.

After a preliminary round decision win, Turner was matched up with South Central champion Drew Peck (32-4) from Chambersburg. Peck clamped Turner in 1:44 of the first period, sending him to a Friday afternoon second round consolation match against the winner of a first round consi between Chase Smith (26-15) from Springford and Collin Stevens (36-3) from Central Bucks East.

Senior Geo Barzona (37-4) was stunned in his first round match at the PIAA championships at the Giant Center earlier Thursday. Barzona, a two-time PIAA place-winner, fell to Northeast runner-up Cameron Enriquez (32-2), a sophomore from Stroudsburg.

After a scoreless first period, Enriquez chose down, escaped and picked up a takedown for a 3-0 lead after two periods. Barzona chose down in period three and worked an escape with some 10 seconds remaining but could not pick up a tying takedown. The loss sends the Wildcat into the first round of consolations, scheduled for an 8:15 p.m. Thursday start. He will be wrestling Killian Delaney (38-10), a freshman from West Chester Henderson.
