Words of Grace – March 6, 2014

WordsOfGraceWhen a rich young man refused to become a follower of Jesus, he “went away grieved: for he had great possessions” (Mark 10:22) It was at that time Jesus began to talk about how hard it is for those who “have riches” to enter into the Kingdom of God.

The disciples were amazed when they heard this, but Jesus repeated the statement. This time he pointed out how hard it is for them that “trust in riches” to enter the Kingdom. There is a big difference between “having” and “trusting.”

To those rich people who are also trusting in their riches, Jesus says: “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God” (v. 25).

A Godly man who had great riches recently went home to be with the Lord. He had been listed high up among the 500 richest men in the United States, but made a decision to trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and use his money in the Lord’s work.

When a rich man comes to Christ it is not easy to make that decision. In fact, as Jesus said, it is a hard decision to make. When the disciples asked, “Who then can be saved?”

Jesus gave the answer:

“With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible” (Mark 10:27).

As Paul Radar writes: “Only believe, only believe; All things are possible, only believe.”
