cm-wrestlingBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP — It had the markings of a mismatch going in and that turned out to be  the story as the Central Mountain wrestling team (5-0) rolled over visiting Shamokin Tuesday night, the final score 65-6 in favor of the Wildcats.

The win kept Central Mountain undefeated at 5-0 and sets up a busy Saturday in Clearfield where the ‘Cats are guaranteed five more dual meets at the Bison Duals, part of a heavy upcoming stretch featuring a Jan. 31 home showdown with Bellefonte (12-1).

Shamokin brought only nine wrestlers to the Wildcat gym and only one left with a victory;  veteran Indian Jake Carpenter (12-3) pinned Central Mountain sophomore Alonzo Henry (1-1), Henry filling in for Brandon Miller who was out with a minor injury.

Only two bouts went the distance, the Wildcats winning both. The best bout of the night came at 132 pounds where Wildcat junior Seth Andrus (15-4) moved up a weight, gave up two first period takedowns but came back and defeated Devin Pietkiewicz (13-4) by a 7-6 score. Also going the full six minutes was junior Tanner Weaver (16-5) who gave up four first period points but bounced back and dominated Aaron Miller (5-7) by an 11-4 score.

The Wildcats picked up four pins, Dalton Bechdel (3-1), up a weight at 120 pounds; Logan Long (11-6) at 138; Logan Soo (3-2) at 145; and Caleb Turner (13-6) at 182. All four falls were in the first period.

Heavyweight Richie Thompson (17-5) took a third period bout termination, 18-0. There was no bout at 113 pounds as Wildcat coach Biff Walizer juggled his lineup a bit.

The task won’t be so easy Saturday at the Clearfield Bison Duals. The Wildcats are seeded number one in one of four 4-team pools. They will meet Benton (6-0) at 8:15 a.m., Williamsport (1-4) at 10:45 a.m. and General McLane (4-1) at 1:15 p.m.
