CM Dominates Bulldogs 64-38

cm-basketballBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – The Jersey Shaore Bulldogs came to town hoping to continue their winning momentum in their neighboring rivalry with the Wildcats. The Bulldogs swept Central Mountain in both soccer and football in the fall sports season and the Wildcats were dead set on seeming that tide on the hardwood tonight. That they dis with a convincing 64-38 runaway win.

Even though the final score reflected an easy win for the Wildcats, the victory wouldn’t receive many style points especially in the early going.

“Certainly I was happy with our guys intensity,” said CM head coach Scott Baker of his squad’s effort, “It’s nice to win a game when you don’t necessarily play real, real well.”

Central Mountain was stingy on defense but lacked consistency on offense. Creating multiple turnovers that didn’t result in scores plagued CM in the early going. At the end of the first quarter, Central Mountain held a narrow 10-9 advantage as Jersey Shore kept pace with the hosts.

“We were able to force some turnovers, run the court and get some easy shots,” explained Baker of his teams’ efforts in the second quarter, “We really fought ourselves a in the half court offensively tonight. Creating some turnovers where we could get out and run a bit was big for us.”

Fortunes changed in the second quarter as the Wildcats were continuing their stingy defense but were converting more scores on their takeaways to hold a 29-15 lead at the half punctuated by a buzzer beater shot from Brody Baker who missed a few minutes of the first half after receiving a cut above his eyebrow.

Then in the third quarter, the Wildcats stepped up their pace and continued to stymy the Bulldog offense doubling up on the visitors 24-12 in the period to hold a 53-27 lead heading into the final eight minutes.

In the final quarter, ‘shore kept pace with the Wildcats but the deficit was far too much to over come with the Wildcats edging the Bulldogs 11-10 for the final 64-38 score.

In the early going of a new season, coaches are always looking for ways to improve. Even though the Wildcats are a respectable 2-0 on the young season, he sees room for improvement.

“As long as we continue to play with intensity, we are going to be fine on the defensive end,” said Baker, “Our biggest concern is our offensive execution. We have a lot of very good offensive players we think, but our execution side is not working very well right now.”

Kyle Everhart led the Wildcats with 19 points followed by Brody Baker with 12. Trevor Hanna and Justin Neff both score 8 points each with Matt Storeman contributing 9 points on the night. Collin Jones contributed 6 points wand Nick Carpenetti had 2 points.

Next up for the Wildcats is road trip Friday, Dec. 16, 2016 at Midd-West.
