Gould is replacing Giants kicker Josh Brown who the team left in New York after detailed and lurid domestic abuse details came to light this week.

Gould, 34, is ranked 10th all-time with an 85.4 field goal percentage with the Chicago Bears; he was cut by the Bears after 10 years, his ouster coming just before the start of the NFL’s regular season. An NFL source said he signed a pro-rated contract with the Giants for the duration of the season.

Gould had been the Bears’ longest tenured player and the team’s all-time leading scorer. He was 33 for 39 in field goals last season and had missed only seven games since joining Chicago in 2005.
