LOCK HAVEN — A former Lock Haven University wrestler has waived his formal court arraignment and is reported in treatment following his arrest in late August based on off-campus and Lock Haven Hospital emergency room incidents.

Chance Marsteller, 21, had been scheduled for arraignment in Clinton County Court today but a plea of not guilty was entered. Pennlive.com reported that Marsteller is in counseling and, according to his attorney Ryan Gardner, has completed in-patient treatment and is now an outpatient.

Gardner told pennlive that Marsteller, free on $50,000 bail, is living with his parents in New Park, York County. He has been charged with multiple offenses based on the late August incidents, charged at the time with six counts of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, disorderly conduct/fighting, six counts of recklessly endangering another, six counts of simple assault and one count of open lewdness. An additional charge of public drunkenness was added last month, based on a reported blood alcohol content of .274 and traces of cocaine and THC in his system.

According to the police filing at the time, law enforcement officials had to use a tranquilizer to subdue Marsteller after they had to restrain him and transport him from Evergreen Commons to the hospital emergency room.

Gardner said there has been no offer of a plea agreement, pennlive.com reported, because the office of district attorney Dave Strouse was awaiting the results of Marsteller’s treatment.

Marsteller, a four-time PIAA wrestling champion, was one of the most sought-after high school wrestlers in the nation two years ago. Marsteller joined the LHU program in May of this year and was a runner-up at the University Nationals in Akron, Ohio in June. He was dismissed from the team immediately after the late August incident occurred. Gardner said he dropped out of the local school to focus on his issues and treatment.
