Wolf, Hanna Urge Voter Registration/Participation at LHU

Mike Hanna
LOCK HAVEN — Gov. Tom Wolf and state Rep. Mike Hanna (D-Clinton/Centre) were on the Lock Haven University campus today, urging the university community to register and vote.
“You gotta’ vote” was the refrain from both, noting the November registration deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Hanna, state representative from the 76th district, applauded the several hundred people present, including some Donald Trump supporters, for being engaged in the political process. He urged students in attendance to register and decried the cutback in state higher education funding under the previous Corbett administration. He said in 1984 the state provided 62 percent of the state system budget. Today that number is 28 percent; a trend he said that must be reversed.

Hanna said changes may be on the state system horizon, noting a study on the future viability of the state system is under way in Harrisburg. He lauded Lock Haven University for recognition as one of the three best managed schools in the 14-school state system.

Fellow Democrat Wolf stressed to the audience the need to invest in education, calling the affordability of higher education a problem, one he said is being addressed through the recent creation of a roundtable on the issue. Wolf told the students the election is their chance to “weigh in on” their future.
Wolf called for the return of Rep. Hanna to Harrisburg where the Lock Haven resident is the House minority whip. He said a Hanna defeat in November would be a “loss to his constituency and Pennsylvania.”

Hanna is opposed in November by Republican Stephanie Borowicz, a political newcomer from McElhattan. Today’s event was held at LHU’s new outdoor amphitheater.
