Words of Grace – June 30, 2016

WordsOfGraceThe Book of Psalms is called the song book of the Bible. The Psalms were written to be sung, and some of them are still sung today. Six times in this book there is reference to a new song.

“O sing unto the Lord a new song . . . For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised” (Psalm 96:1, 4).

“O sing unto the Lord a new song; for he hath done marvelous things” (Psalm 98:1).

“I will sing a new song unto thee O God,” David wrote, in Psalm 144:9. Then he tells God’s people to praise the Lord by singing to him “a new song” (Psalm 149:1).

Max Lucado tells the story about a man who went to a pet store in search of a singing parakeet. It seems that his house was just too quiet for him because he was a bachelor who lived alone.

There was just the right bird in the store, so he bought it. The next day when he came home from work, the house was full of music. When he went to the cage to feed the bird he noticed for the first time that the parakeet had only one leg.

When the man called the store to complain about being sold a one-legged bird, the store owner asked him, “What do you want, a bird that can sing or a bird that can dance?”

A singing bird was what he wanted. What a difference it made!
