bucks-footballFARWELL – Bucktail football will have a new look when it opens the new season at home Friday with Troy High School as coach Bruce Ransom is changing his offense and defense that he has run for many years.

Bucktail will be more committed on running the ball this season than in the past. The coaching staff of Josh Day, Bill Probst, Frank Sutliff and Ryan Graw with Ransom feels that the Double Wing offense will best fit their athletes. It does not place the weight on one or two players. It spreads the ball around.

Bucktail’s returning letter winners are seniors Mike Casper, Devin Embick, Tyler Hartman, Zack Cummings and Mitch Intallura. Juniors include Billy Yednak, Logan Long, Cody Hand and Aaron Lucas. Sophomores are Tanner Riggle and Blake Cannon. They will have nine new players from last year’s successful junior high program: sophomores Kenny Winkleman, Richard Perry, Alex Intallura, Joey Long, Ben Probert and Bradley Embick. Freshmen include Devin Serafini and Liam Dwyer. One new player to the program is sophomore William Gonzales.

In the Double Wing offense, they are looking for Winkleman and Riggle as the fullbacks. The wings will include Cannon, Dwyer, Serafini and either Perry or Casper in which either one of those two will be behind center. Long and Mitch Intallura will be the tight ends.

Ransom is also changing up his defense as coach “Puppy ” Shaffer will be proud of him. Ransom is well known for his 4-4 defense. This season he is changing to a 5-3 again to fit his athletes. This year, co-captains Long and Hand will play a big part in their outside linebacker positions. The both of them were first team conference selections last year. Riggle is moving to defensive tackle as Winkleman will be handling the inside linebacker position.

The offensive line is working real hard to come together as this is true for the backs as well. Last Saturday they looked good against Central Mountain and BEA. All the backs were running real hard and were gaining positive yardage each play.

The Bucks are facing a tough schedule to start out with. If they can survive the first couple of weeks and improve within those weeks, many Buck followers believe they will have a strong ending to their season. Most people are not giving the Bucks a chance. They better watch out because the Bucks have some young talented backs that can fly in the open field.

Bucktail will open with Troy High School, home at Dwyer Memorial Field Friday at 7 p.m.
