CASTANEA TOWNSHIP – A little more than two years after a devastating fire destroyed their longtime downtown post home, the Lock Haven Veterans of Foreign Wars Bland J. Rossman Post 1630 today formally dedicated the opening of its brand new building. The 3,000 square foot addition is part of its new location, the former Greystone Café on E. Water St.

Post officials posed outside for the appropriate picture (from the left, Jane Stroup, Chaplain; George Shroat, Post Service Officer; Carl Litz, Sergeant; Fred Lingle, Advocate; Floyd Baldwin, Senior Vice-Commander; Wayne Litz, Commander; Dave Harger, Quartermaster; Tom Motel, Adjutant) and went into the new club room for a brief ceremony.

Harger thanked Commander Litz and others for making the new facility a reality. He said it took “a lot of hard work” by many people to bring the project to fruition in two years. They included M & R Contracting, Precision Electric and Lock Haven Plumbing & Heating.

State Rep. Mike Hanna (D-Clinton/Centre) spoke briefly and said the VFW “picked well” in selecting its project contractors. He said all of them, including subcontractor Harger Utility Contractors, are noted for sponsoring and supporting veterans programs.

The newly expanded facility is available for community social functions. The previous post home, at Church and Grove Streets in Lock Haven, was destroyed in a $400,000 fire in June of 2014.
