Mackeyville Produce Building Destroyed in Overnight Fire
MACKEYVILLE — A fire just before midnight last night destroyed the produce building at Mackeyville Greenhouse and Produce at 65 Mill Street.
Business operator Sam Glick told therecord-online the fire appeared to start in the frame building’s diesel room. Flames quickly engulfed the building and badly damage a nearby garage. The greenhouse portion of the business, across the parking lot from the produce building, escaped damage.
An Amish cleanup crew was on site at sunup today removing the debris. Glick said plans are being made for a temporary tent to house the family’s produce business while plans are drawn up for a new commercial building, per Lamar Township regulations.
Glick thanked the area fire companies who responded; many had been out earlier in the evening answering a major blaze at the Beth Piper home in Woodward Township.
