Second Place Finish Reward for Battling Back Through the Lower Bracket

key-base-logoMOUNT UNION – The Keystone 9-11 all-stars gave it their best shot in tonight’s Pennsylvania Little League title game but fell 13-5 to Red Land.

Keystone stayed with the suburban Harrisburg team early in the game, ahead 3-2 after three innings. But Red Land opened things up in the top of the fourth on a three-run homer from winning pitcher Tyler Close.

Four more in both the fifth and sixth innings allowed the undefeated team to pull away for the 13-5 final margin.

Keystone touched up Close for two hits in each of the first five innings and eleven overall but nine of them were singles and he walked but one batter.

Chase Brush and Matt Conklin had the doubles, each with two hits. Cru Stover had two singles; others came from Blaze King, Ben Herrick and Kaden Irvin. Owen Gill also had two singles.

Cru Stover took the loss but had 9 strike outs. Owen Gill and Luke Simcox pitched in relief.

The loss ended Keystone’s 4-game run through the loser’s bracket as the team finished second in the state. Many of the squad members were on Keystone’s 10-year-old team a year ago, one that also finished No. 2 in the state.
