key-base-logoBEECH CREEK — The Keystone 8-10 Little League team has repeated as the Section 2 titlist but tonight’s win over a determined Roosevelt Trail team did not come easily.

Keystone had vanquished the Wyalusing area team by a 17-5 count earlier in the tourney but the Northern Tier team hung with favored Keystone right until the final out in the home team’s 9-6 victory. The win put Keystone into the state Little League Tournament in Bradford beginning Tuesday against an opponent to be determined.

Keystone gave up two first inning runs but answered right back with three in the bottom of the inning, taking advantage of two walks and a single from Cayden Culvey to load the bases. When Gavin Burnell was hit by a pitch one run came in; Gardner Fravel followed with a 2-run double to centerfield to put the score at 3-2 Keystone after one.

Coach Patrick Johnson’s team added a run in the third as Wyatt Kramer doubled in Levi Schlesinger who had doubled; another run scored in the fourth and Keystone took a 5-2 lead into the top of the fifth when Roosevelt Trail struck for three runs to tie the game at 5-5.

Keystone bounced back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth: with one out Elek Fravel singled and Burnell walked; with two outs Connor Foltz came up with a key RBI single to make it 6-5 Keystone. Then Brady Myers unloaded a 3-run homer to put the score at 9-5 after five.

Roosevelt Trail did not go quietly in the top of the sixth, scoring one run and getting two runners on base with two outs but Myers (who was on in relief) picked up a game-ending strikeout to set the final at 9-6 Keystone.

Keystone was held to eight hits by two RT pitchers. Myers led the way with his single and homerun and also walked for a 2-for-2 night.

Myers picked up the win in relief of starter Gabe Johnson. The two allowed eight hits, struck out nine but walked nine and hit one.
