Keystone Majors Pound ‘Sock 13-3

key-base-logoBEECH CREEK — Manager Ben Falls wanted his Keystone Major baseball team to “come out and set the tone” early on their District 12 Little League opener with Loyalsock.

The Keystone hitters did just that, plating runs in every inning en route to a 13-3 4-inning win over visiting Loyalsock at Blaine Kunes Memorial Park Monday night.

Keystone got production from up and down its lineup, all nine starters contributing at least one hit, part of a 12 hit attack against two Loyalsock pitchers. Catcher/shortstop/pitcher Cy Probst led the assault, going 3-for-3 with two homeruns, four RBIs and three runs scored.

Meanwhile three Keystone pitchers combined for a 3-hitter, starter Ryan Thompson earning the win with two shutout innings, backed by Kaden Falls and Probst. Manager Falls, in his postgame comments expressed concern about the number of deep counts his pitchers worked; they also surrendered five walks.

Otherwise, Falls was pleased, particularly with his squad’s offense. Keystone sent four homeruns out of Kunes Park, the two from Probst plus a bomb from Cade McCloskey and a 3-run dinger from Aaron Miller, his blast ending the game on the 10-run rule in the bottom of the fourth.

McCloskey had a single in addition to his homerun, Blade Myers had a single, Kaden Falls a single, Brady Bendick a single, Nash Welch a single, Thompson a single and Ryan Pentz a single.

Next up is a trip to Montoursville for a 6 p.m. Wednesday contest; Montour, the defending district champions, had a first round bye.
