Eat at the Cool Table: Odd Fellas to Open June 20

LOCK HAVEN – Downtown Lock Haven will soon see the addition of a new dining option just in time for summer.

Odd Fellas, a restaurant featuring crafted burgers and shakes is set to officially open on Monday, June 20 at 101 East Main Street. But why the name “Odd Fellas?”

“The Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) used to meet on the third floor for a time in the 1800’s,” exclaimed General Manager Sarah Grimes, “so we felt that the name would be a great fit!”

Research shows that the IOOF is a community-minded organization similar to that of the Free Masons who, believing in a supreme being, the creator and preserver of the universe, believe that friendship, love and truth are the basic guidelines needed to be followed in our daily lives.

“God opened the door of opportunity for burgers and in they came,” said Grimes, laughing. “Through market research we were able to realize that the need for beef and burgers is pretty recession-proof, so we wanted to create a space that would be family-friendly and inviting for the downtown!”

“Kitchen Manager and Chef Sean Geraty has brought years of experience with him in the restaurant industry,” added Grimes. “He can have his own kitchen to (pretty much) craft any idea that comes to mind.”

The menu, as seen on www.oddfellasburger.com consists of burgers of beef, turkey, black bean (vegetarian) and a salmon pattie, all infused with Sarah and Sean’s secret blend of spices. Fries and the option to add sweet potato fries for a dollar extra, milk shakes and build-your-own burgers top off the menu. There is Gluten-free bread available or those on a Gluten-free diet.

“How we differentiate our burgers is through the Smash Pattie Technique…all burgers are cooked the same; no medium or well-done,” explained Grimes. “We offer consistency in quality and ensure a juicy, good burger.” The talk of soft drinks from a special, craft soda company has garnered a buzz locally. The folks from Appalachian Brewing Company’s craft soda division were excited to begin distribution in town to Odd Fellas.

What has Sarah, Chef Sean and the Odd Fellas crew the most anxious is meeting the expectations of their customers. “We have seen the excitement and have received encouragement from our future customers and we want to deliver what they are hoping for,” said Grimes.

Those who know Sarah Grimes personally know that she has an eye for “flipping” and re-purposing items for continued use. “At Odd Fellas everybody can have a seat at the “Cool Table,” explained Sarah, which is 26′ of reclaimed wood from Clinton Lanes. The rest of the items inside came from the building, which is owned by her and her husband Common Place Church Pastor Josh Grimes.

Odd Fellas is located at 101 East Main Street, Lock Haven. They will be open to the public starting Monday, June 20 from 11 a.m.to 8 p.m. Monday – Saturday, closed Sunday’s. Find them on Facebook under the name Odd Fellas and at www.oddfellasburger.com.
