It’s Official: Haines, Marsteller Join LHU

lhu-matsLOCK HAVEN – Lock Haven University head wrestling coach Scott Moore today announced the addition of two transfers, both of whom were four-time Pennsylvania High School State Champions.

Both Thomas Haines and Chance Marsteller have transferred to LHU and will compete on the mats for the Bald Eagles next season.

The addition of Haines and Marsteller also strengthens an already strong District 3 connection.

While competing at Solanco High School in Quarryville, Pennsylvania – Haines went 174-5 overall and won four PIAA state titles. He was 42-0 as a senior.

Marsteller was a perfect 166-0 during his high school career at Kennard-Dale in Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania. The four-time PIAA state champion was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the PIAA State Championships three times.

This past season, while competing for Ohio State, Haines won the Penn State Open (285) and he helped seal a big dual-win over Illinois with a 3-2 victory over No. 13 Brooks Black.

During Marsteller’s redshirt-freshman year at Oklahoma State (2014-15), he went 14-4 with two wins over top-15 ranked opponents while wrestling unattached in open tournaments.

“Adding Haines and Marsteller to the program builds a lot of excitement in the community and across the state,” said Moore. “It’s great to have them back in Pennsylvania to compete for Lock Haven University, close to family, friends and supporters.”

“Haines and Marsteller bring an extensive resume to LHU,” said Moore “Having wrestlers of their caliber and experience will certainly increase the exposure of LHU Wrestling and build on a very successful history in Mat-Town USA. These two wrestlers will play an important role in the future of our program and be instrumental in building the momentum in recruiting, alumni support and match attendance.”

Both Haines and Marsteller join the Bald Eagles with three years of NCAA eligibility remaining.

LHU’s 2016 recruiting class was ranked No. 14 nationally by InterMat.

This past season, Moore and the Bald Eagles sent a pair of wrestlers to the 2016 NCAA Division I National Championships, giving the Bald Eagles nine national qualifiers in the last three seasons. Lock Haven finished third at the 2016 Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) Championships.
