Wildcats Dominate Seals 77-45

cm-basketballBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – Intensity, balance and teamwork. The keys to success in any group endeavor. Tonight, the Central Mountain (13-8) boys’ basketball program put all those tools to play in their 77-45 domination of Selinsgrove.

There was intensity from the tip-off until the final buzzer as the Wildcats are in preparation mode for the post season which will certainly throw some stiff competition their way. Fortunately, their shots were dropping. If they didn’t get a clean shot, they collected the fouls and made the Seals pay the price from the foul line. In all, 11 Wildcats scored points on the night.

There was balance in the effort against the Seals as they worked the ball for scores outside the arc, in the paint and attacked the base line as needed. That balance was also applied on the defensive end of the court as CM worked hard for every rebound, steal and jump ball they could muster.

“Wyatt Bumbarger was really hot early, then Kyle came in and knocked a few more down,’ explained Wildcat head coach, Scott Baker, “Alex Garbrick was his normal self, and there were contributions across the board.”

And those contributions were of a selfless nature in that the Wildcats shared the wealth of opportunities that came their way.

“Unofficially, at halftime, we had 14 field goals … and 10 assists,” said Baker to illustrate his team’s unselfish attitude.

The difference maker in the game came in the third quarter. Central Mountain had built a 36-26 lead by halftime, then really raised the bar by outscoring the Seals 18-4 in the third quarter and 23-15 in the final period.

This effort was a different flavor of style and outcome from their road trip to Selinsgrove on Jan. 30 which resulted in a 58-41 loss for the ‘Cats.

In that outing Baker recalled, “We played very flat, there was a very small crowd and it was as quiet as a morgue. Tonight we wanted to make sure we played well.”

Although the margin of victory was extensive, Central Mountain was not trying to run up the score. All 14 players on the varsity roster saw time on the court.

“We have to be peaking right now,” Baker related, with the District 6 playoffs just around the corner, “If you look at the scorebook, every one of our guys played in the fourth quarter and the majority of them played in the third quarter as well.”

Leading the way offensively was Alex Garbrick with 19 points, Wyatt Bumbarger, 14 points and Kyle Everhart, 13 points. Following closely were: Justin Neff with 9; Brody Baker and Nick Carpenetti each with 6 points. Landon Breon scored 3 points while Cole Reeder, Brody Baker and Tyler Zablocki all scored 2. Wyatt Koch hit 1 point on a free throw to round out the scoring.

Additionally, Everhart added 3 more three-point shots to his record breaking season total of 63. Everhart broke the Central Mountain single season record on Saturday of 57, set by Eli Hanna.

Next up for Central Mountain is their final regular season contest at Altoona on Feb. 16, 2016.
