2nd Annual Elk Antler (SHED) Hunt

KARTHUS – The Quehanna Industrial Development Corporation (QIDC) will sponsor the 2nd Annual Elk Antler (SHED) hunt scheduled for February 6 through May 21, 2016.

The area for this hunt will be in the Pennsylvania Elk Management Area.  Sheds must come from the wild elk herd, not a game farm or preserve.  Each participant must be a 2016 member of QIDC.  If you are not a member at this time, you can apply for membership when you register for the hunt.  Membership is $5.00 per year.  A registration fee must be paid at the time of registration.  Registrations will not be taken after February 6, 2016.  The hunt will end at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 21, 2016.

Registration will be accepted by mail until January 27, 2016.  A representative of QIDC will be at the Quehanna Motor Lodge, 818 Quehanna Highway, Karthaus for registrations from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. January 17, 24, 31.

Feeding and baiting the wild elk in Pennsylvania is prohibited by law.  Do not feed or bait the elk to try and keep them in the area that you are watching.  If caught, you will be cited by the Pennsylvania Game Commission and you will be disqualified from the hunt.  The Pennsylvania Game Commission has officers on duty all of the time.

Prizes will be awarded for the largest score, which will be 49% of the take in fee.  QIDC will also donate 1% to the Keystone Elk Country Alliance.  QIDC will keep 1% to help pay for promoting the event and the expenses that it incurred to organize this event.  The remaining amount will be divided equally with registered participants that found sheds and checked them in.  A professional person will do the scoring of the found sheds.

This event will be great for all family members.  All participants must be registered for the event. Please ask permission to hunt on private property.

Decisions made by the Elk antler (SHED) hunt committee of the Quehanna Industrial Development Corporation are final.  For information: call 814-263-4418, email: qidckarthaus15@gmail.com or website:  www.visitquehannaarea.com.
