Slow Start Hampers Lady ‘Cats (Video Report)

cm-basketballBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – Shamokin took advantage of a slow start by the Lady ‘Cats to cruise to a 51-26 win over Central Mountain.

The Lady Indians jumped out to a 12-0 lead before CM ever got on the board and never really looked back. Shamokin had a 14-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and then stretched that margin to 29-11 at the half.

Though, it wasn’t all bad for the Lady Wildcats as they really picked up their defensive intensity in the second quarter which offered the opportunity to achieve their share of rebounds and turnovers. Unfortunately, the Lady ‘Cats were not able to convert that effort into enough points to close the gap.

In the third quarter, Central Mountain kept up the defensive intensity and managed to keep pace with the visitors as Shamokin only outscored the hosts 8-6, which gave them a 37-17 advantage heading into the last period.

Then Shamokin kicked it up a notch outpacing CM 14-9 to close out their 51-26 Heartland Conference win.

Leading the Lady Wildcats in scoring were: Grayson McCloy 6, Averie Pringle 5, Lydia McCaleb and Julia Novosat, each with 4. Emily Strouse 3, Lauren Hoy 2, Sadie McCaleb and Dayna Fourney each contribute 1 pint.

Next up for Central Mountain is a road trip to take on conference leader, Danville, Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015.
