Raymond Gates Stiner, 84, of 910 Weldon Street, Montoursville died Sunday, November 1, 2015 at home with his family. Ray, the son of George and Leona Stiner was born in Renovo, Pennsylvania in 1931. His siblings were Jack Stiner and Helen (Stiner) Diem, both now deceased. He was the husband to Patricia Ann Hagen for almost 60 years. He is survived by three children; Deborah (Michael) Cillo, Gary (Jodi) Stiner and Vicki Matlack; six grandchildren; Brady (Lisa) Cillo, Garrett Cillo, Nicholas (Brittany) Stahlnecker, Amber Voyten (Vicki), Steven and Erich Stiner (Gary and Jodi); two great grandchildren; Ava and Emma Cillo (Brady and Lisa).

He graduated from Renovo High School in 1949. He did a two year tour of service in the Army during the Korean War Era. After the Army service, Mr. Stiner started employment with Bell of PA and AT&T for 31 plus years. He retired from AT&T in 1986.

Ray would like to thank Montoursville Area School District Administrators for allowing him to work for 46 ½ years with the Athletic department. During that nearly 47 years, he had seen or had been Game Manager between 4500-5000 Junior High, JV and Varsity sporting events.

Starting in May, 1968 he volunteered 15 years, and then was selected Head Girls Track Coach for the next 15 years. Ray kept the Montoursville home football games’ down marker for 30 years. During this tenure, they started and Ray was hired as Montoursville Athletic Department’s game manager for nearly 27 years. He worked during the employment of 7 different Athletic Directors, 4 different principals and 6 different Superintendents. The greatest highlights of Mr. Stiner’s coaching career genuinely came with working with all the athletes. His coaching tenure enjoyed him to lead the lady warriors’ track team to numerous District IV Track and Field Championships and many individual girls and relay teams placing at the Pennsylvania State Track & Field championships.

Ray enjoyed swimming and running; running nearly 30,000 laps around the Montoursville Track and accumulating about 50,000 miles on the open road and track combined…he smiles when he says “I ran around the earth twice!” Prior to this article…he told family “…and to all the girls and adults over the nearly 30 years that he called them ‘UGLY’, he didn’t mean it…you were the sweetest, kindest and most gracious people…Go MHS!!!”

There will be a viewing for family and friends at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St. Montoursville, on Saturday, November 7th from 12:30 -2pm. A Service at 2pm with Reverend Rusty Wolfinger of Faith Church presiding will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the “Montoursville Area School District Booster Club” in Ray Stiner’s name. Gifts can be sent in care of: “Athletic Director, Montoursville Area High School, 100 North Arch Street, Montoursville, PA 17754.”
