It’s Official – Rt 220 Interchange Open (Video Report)

LAMAR TOWNSHIP – In a joint effort with Clinton County Economic Development, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation held a ribbon-cutting this morning to officially open the new Route 220/Auction Road interchange in Lamar Township. Area drivers can now enjoy smoother, more efficient travel through this area and benefit from increased sight distance at the four-way intersection.

Blustery, wet weather pushed the event indoors to the Central Pennsylvania Auto Auction building. PennDOT was also joined by the staff of State Rep. Mike Hanna’s office, Chuck Dillon of State Senator Joe Scarnati’s office, Mike Glazer of Congressman Glenn Thompson’s office, Clinton County Commissioners, and area business owners and residents. Following brief remarks, dignitaries gathered to cut the ribbon in the contractor’s staging area, adjacent to the project.
“We broke ground on Phase One of this project in June of 2013.” said PennDOT District 2 Executive Kevin Kline. “A little more than two years later, we are happy to officially open the new roadway and interchange. This much anticipated project is now a reality for local and regional drivers.”

PennDOT gave contractor H.R.I. Inc. notice to proceed last October on Phase Two, which constructed the new bridge and ramps on the western side of Route 220. In 2013 and 2014, Phase One, built the ramps on the eastern side of Route 220, adjacent to the Auto Auction. Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College was the contractor on Phase One.

In total, the project cost was $16 million, $3.4 million for Phase One and $12.6 million for Phase Two.
