cm-volleyballBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – It was an exciting evening at the Central Mountain gym Wednesday night as the Lady Wildcats battled visiting DuBois to take a 3-1 win.

That win didn’t come as easy as the Lady ‘Cats had hoped.

In Game 1, although the score was close with CM winning the set 25-21, there was a level of confidence in the eventual outcome. That confidence was bolstered in the second game as Central Mountain cruised to a 25-13 victory.

Then, DuBois regrouped and decided they were not about to board their bus and head quietly back down I-80 West. The Lady Beavers found a rhythm and a little confidence of their own and took Game 3 to the wire for a 25-22 win for the guests.

DuBois continued to battle CM intensely in Game 4 jumping out to a 11-3 advantage before the Lady Wildcats doubled down and battled back to knot the score at 13-all. From that point, it was a scoreboard see-saw with neither team able to muster more than a 2 point advantage. Then the Lady Beavers managed to extend their lead by 3 to go up 24-21 and needed but one more point to force a tie-breaker Game 5.

That is when Central Mountain head coach, Megan Coleman challenged her squad to dig a little deeper and fight back. Fight back they did.

Not only did CM hold DuBois from their game-winning point, they managed to close the gap to tie the score at 24-24, then summarily added to their tally to take the lead at 25-24 putting match point on their side of the balance sheet. As fate would have it, DuBois once again answered back to tie it up at 25-all before they too claimed the lead at 26-25.

Refusing once more to yield to the Lady Beavers, Central Mountain found the strength and will to persevere and score the final two points of the contest for a very emotional 28-26 win.

Offensively, Vanesso Soo had 10 kills followed by Loren Marasco, 8; Madison Brown, 7; Elaina Eckly, 5; while Emily Caprio and Karli Coleman each had 2 kills. Eckley recorded 9 aces while Loren Marasco, Madison Brown and Dayna Fourney each had 2 aces and Maegan Miller had 1 ace on the night.

Defensively, Karli Coleman added 25 digs for the Lady ‘Cats followed by Eckley, 9; Miller, 7; Marasco, 5; Fourney, 5; Soo, 3; and Caprio and Brown each has 1 dig.

Karli Coleman was also recognized for reaching a career milestone surpassing 1,000 digs in her three years of varsity participation with the Lady Wildcat volleyball program.

Central Mountain has one remaining home contest tomorrow evening, Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015 with St. Joseph Academy. The contest will also be the senior night celebration for the squad.
