Berwick Man Dies in Hyner Hang Gliding Crash

CHAPMAN TOWNSHIP — A hang-gliding accident in the vicinity of Hyner Mountain has cost a Berwick man his life.

State police said the accidental death occurred around 3 p.m. today at the hang-gliding landing zone in Chapman Township. Investigating officer Curtis Confer issued a report which said the victim was a known 62 year-old male from Berwick. The identity of the victim is to be released upon notification of next of kin.

The police release said, “The victim was attempting to land his hang glider and crashed causing his death.” No other information was immediately available.

Hyner Mountain has long been a favored spot for hang-gliders from all over the state and is often in use during Flaming Foliage Festival weekend.
