powerengRENOVO –The Renovo area community has been invited to an October open house to learn more about the natural gas to electricity power plant proposed for the old rail yard site on the north side of Renovo.

Western Clinton County residents on Wednesday of this week received a mailer from “The Renovo Energy Center Team” inviting them to the open house scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Western Clinton County Recreation Center on St. Clair Avenue in the borough.

The mailer is the first formal pronouncement from REC to the public about the proposal and identifies the Bechtel Development Company as the lead agency in the project supported by consultant Innovative Power Solutions.

Addressed to “Dear Renovo Resident,” the REC group said the letter’s purpose is “to introduce ourselves, start an ongoing dialogue with you about a proposed energy project at the Renovo Industrial Park,” inviting recipients to the open house “to learn more about the project.”

It states the proposal will be for a 950 megawatt gas-fired electric generating facility producing enough energy “to power nearly one million homes…The project will create short-term construction jobs and longer-term facility operations jobs, be one of the region’s largest tax payers, and open up new opportunities for industry and growth.”

The letter details steps taken to this point in the several year effort to bring the project to fruition and concludes with a commitment to the community: “The Renovo Energy Team is committed to being a good neighbor in your community. We are excited by the opportunity this facility will bring to Renovo, and pledge to leave a lasting, productive and environmentally sound legacy.”
