Flaming Foliage Future Queen & Escort Contest …

The annual Flaming Foliage Future Queen & Escort Contest is underway and the competition is inspiring. FF committee members tell me that last year there were no entries in the contest. This year it’s a different story. There are eight contestants, four girls and four boys vying for the titles. Voting boxes are out at Lingle’s Market and Yesterday’s Restaurant in Renovo and Addies Jewelry and Unkel Jo’s Woodshed in Lock Haven. Place your votes early and often. The last day for voting is Wednesday, Sept. 30. Winners will be announced at the Flaming Foliage Follies at the High School on Fri., Oct. 2.

Great Bucktail football needs a Bucktail Band …

Renovo native Deb Probst-Clarke was in town for last Friday’s football game and she said the game was terrific. The only thing missing was a band cheering Bucktail players, a Bucktail band to celebrate each touchdown. Deb isn’t the first one I’ve heard express sadness that there is no Bucktail band playing at the games. When there’s a band at Half Time, it’s for the visiting team. Deb suggested a possible remedy might be to have Bud & The Dynamics play at Half Time, or perhaps a several musically inclined students could band together for the games.

A Gem of a Record Jewel …

I wonder how many of The Record readers are aware of the really good videos featured with The Record-Online? Last week for instance the Video reports include the Central Mountain Lady Wildcat’s Volleyball team Opening Tourney under: Sports, Volleyball; a video report of the Aug. 29 Budstock Renovo Jam under at The Record-online under Entertainment, featured stories, Budstock. Among the featured photos of the video is Mitch Gavlock, solo guitarist sporting a cap and a green tee shirt. Mitch’s proud parents are Record Editor Lynn Gavlock and Andy Gavock of South Renovo. Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the Aug. 31 video report of what well may be the last Bald Mountain Megatransect trail run event. In all, 752 participants completed the 26-mile course of the 2015 Megatransect trail run event. Thus the 12th such event may have been the last for this location due to problems and red-tape encountered by the event organizers. While I’m promoting the video reports, did I mention that they are included with the on-line version of The Record at no charge to the viewer. As a matter of fact, therecord-online.com is free. What a bonus! What a gem of a jewel. The hometown paper with all the hometown flavor on the internet!
