LOCK HAVEN — State House Minority Whip Mike Hanna offered some guarded optimism about a possible end to the ongoing state budget stalemate.

He did so in an appearance at the Clinton County Commissioners meeting today. Hanna, D-Clinton/Centre, said “hopefully” the differences between the Republican controlled Legislature and Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf can be resolved sometime towards the end of August.

Hanna talked of some progress in talks between the two sides, including in the area of pension reform. But he told the commissioners the budget impasse means the county won’t be receiving its regular allotment of funding for its human services department, indicating that borrowing would be likely to continue those services.

Commissioner Jeff Snyder asked if the state will be reimbursing the county for interest it has to pay on the borrowing. Hanna said he would raise that concern with parties involved in formulating a new state budget.
